The coast of Northumberland can be bleak and wild, but on calm and sunny days the air sparkles, the light bounces from the sea and the white sands reflect yellows and pinks that contrast with the dark blue-black rocks.
I have painted protective small harbours of the North Sea coast such as Craster in Northumberland and Crail on the Fife coast. The rock structures and lighthouses of the Farne Islands have also been an inspiring subject leading to some more abstracted interpretations.
